Ke batla ho ithuta sesotho empa e tata.

Still have the scabs. now have the flu. its bloody cold as ball in this country. its the country with highest lowland in the world. i live in the lowlands but its like living on top of a mountain. its cold everyday. -2^degrees celcius and i have no heat or electricity. thank god mom that you bought me that expensive 2-1 coat before i left. i would not have survived.

i do not think i will have enough money to make it this quarter. i need to stop sponsering students and paying for that goddamn data time for my computer. my friend gave me a heads up that since i bought my modemn used from another pcv they could be stealing the data time off of it or i could even have a virus that is eating the data time. but it is NOT normal for 100R to only buy me 12 minutes of Airtime. hopefully the our tech guy (who is a genius and one of the nicest people i have ever met) could fix it for me.

i want to take the International GRE in october but unfortunately since ive been in Lesotho my spelling and vocabulary have suffered. So has my math ability. and i dont even remember words sometimes. jordan this is a classic case of language attrition. if you need a case study im here for you.

jody, im really proud and happy for you. i worry about you and moose and bears. but im really really proud of you and what you are doing is awesome and inspirational. if you need a forward to your tell-all book about cycling across the US im here for you.

mom COULD YOU CALL ME. 11pm my time 4pm your time this sunday the 30th of may.

I am COO of Water Charity, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that does water, sanitation, and public health projects worldwide. In July, 2009, we started our Appropriate Projects initiative to fund small water and sanitation projects very quickly. Applicants are limited to Peace Corps Volunteers, Returned Peace Corps Volunteers, and Peace Corps Response Volunteers.

I am a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer (Bolivia ’66-’68), and am well aware of the difficulties Volunteers face in the field. Appropriate Projects is an addition to our regular Water Charity model that is allowing us to provide project resources to PCVs in the field immediately.

Often there is that little project that must be done now (before the rains start, before school begins, or in response to a critical need), but there are no funds available. Traditional funding sources are cumbersome, and there are long forms, detailed requirements, limited resources, and long delays.

PCVs working in water and sanitation usually have potential projects lined up. For those working in other program areas, there may be water components to their projects, or improvements needed where they work or teach.

Sample projects may be: rainwater or spring catchments, handwashing stations, water systems, piping, tanks, pumps, latrines, wells, etc.

We like to do the water and sanitation parts of projects for schools, clinics, and community centers. So, if you can get funding for the building and other stuff, we can help with things like the water supply, filters, sinks, plumbing, and drainage.

We like to finish projects that have been started, and fix things that have ceased to function.

We encourage follow-up projects that expand upon the successful completion of the first small project.

If you have a project in mind, please fill out the application form. We want this to be easy for you, so we have developed a simple form that you can fill out in one sitting.

If you have any questions about the appropriateness of your project, or you need some time to get it together, just let us know.

We pre-fund projects, so you don’t have to wait around for donations to roll in.

If you do not have a project that qualifies, please pass this message on to your fellow Volunteers who may have an interest. Finally, if this initiative resonates with you, please let others know what we are doing through your social networks, websites, and blogs.

I look forward to hearing from you.

    Regards,

    Averill

  3. Thank you Mrs. Strasser! Your organization seems to be a perfect fit for my school's situation. It is true that we do have pipes and water tanks in place at the school, it is just that the pipes have been cut and the tapes cemented shut. I would love to get in contact with you soon. Unfortunately, I am currently med-evacted to Pretoria. When I do return to my site, YOU WILL HEAR FROM ME. I promise. Thank you personally and thank you for writing that so other volunteers can see it. Peace be with you.

Rethabile, Ke batla ho ithuta ho'ona! or something like that! haha kea leboha ka thuso.

  4. Good Day Natalie!

Sorry to bother you. My name is Ray Blakney and I am a RPCV from Mexico. I am working on a 3rd goal project with the PC regional offices and the main office in DC to try to create an online archive to keep the language training material made all over the world from getting lost. I have created a sub-section on the website my wife and I run - http://www.livelingua.com - with all the information I have been able to get to date (from over the web and sent to me directly by PC staff and PCV's). I currently have close to 100 languages with ebooks, audios and even some videos.

The next step for this project is that I am trying to get the world out about this resource so that it can not only be used by PCV's or those accepted into the Peace Corps, but also so that when people run across material that is not on the site they can send it to me and I can get it up for everybody to use. I was hoping that you could help getting the word out by putting a link on this on your site at:

    http://lesothoandme.blogspot.com/

so that people know it is there. There should be something there for almost everybody. It is all 100% free to use and share. Here is the specific page of the Peace Corps Archive:

    http://www.livelingua.com/peace-corps-language-courses.php

Thanks for any help you can provide in making this 3rd goal project a success. And if anybody in your group has some old material they can scan or already have in digital form, and want to add to the archive, please don't hesitate to pass them my email. Thanks and have a great day.
